Correcting the Record

When new evidence conflicts with the current understanding, the research space should not reinterpret the evidence merely to protect the conclusion.

The correction process is:

1. preserve the conflicting observation or evidence;
2. verify the conflict where possible;
3. identify which reasoning or assumption is affected;
4. revise or replace the explanatory model;
5. create a new current understanding;
6. explicitly supersede the earlier state;
7. update derived narratives and views;
8. preserve unresolved consequences as open questions.
